BHRT Oral Thyroid Aftercare
Overview
From conception, hormones serve as messengers to instruct your organs and cells how to function. Some of these important hormones begin to decrease around middle age and continue to decline in a linear fashion as we get older, leading to the effects of aging.
The endocrine system is responsible for regulating our body temperature, metabolism, sexual desires, energy, and healing. Hormone deficiencies affect every cell in our body and result in degenerative changes. Bringing hormones back to more youthful levels reverses many of the unfavorable effects that begin to appear as we get older.
Thyroid Hormone
Thyroid is the main metabolic hormone secreted by the thyroid gland, and regulates the body’s temperature, metabolism, cerebral function, and energy. It increases fat breakdown, which can result in weight loss and improvements in cholesterol.
Thyroid hormone therapy typically consists of desiccated bio-identical porcine (pig) thyroid administered by oral pills combining T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine) thyroid hormones. Sometimes, other medications such as Synthroid (T4) and Cytomel (T3) are administered as alternative forms of thyroid therapy.
DOSING: Thyroid hormone should be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with nothing to eat or drink but water for 30 minutes.
LABS: Blood draws to measure thyroid levels should be done one month after starting thyroid, or changing the dosage. Unless instructed otherwise by your clinician, the blood draw should be performed EXACTLY 6 HOURS after your usual morning dose of thyroid.
Summary
The foundation for optimal health and longevity are proper diet and exercise, avoidance of tobacco and excessive alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, and natural hormone replacement therapy. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy stops cellular degeneration, allows regeneration of tissue and healing, and promotes deceleration of the aging process.
Natural hormones are not drugs. The hormones taken in hormone replacement therapy should not exceed the hormone levels that your body has already been accustomed to in its younger years. They caused no harm in your body at that time, and when restored to youthful levels, can continue to provide the health and vigor that can sometimes be lost or diminished with age. When hormones are taken as prescribed by physicians and monitored closely, they produce no negative side effects.
When hormones are taken as prescribed by physicians and monitored closely, they are safe and beneficial. They can improve immunity, which can then help protect the body against cancer.
Physical deterioration is not a requirement of getting older. It is now possible to stop many undesirable aspects of aging, as well as the symptoms and diseases associated with it. Proper delivery of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is scientifically based and shown to not only prolong life but to enhance quality of life.
